As we observe Veterans Day, let’s honor the lives of our loved ones who served with bravery, courage and dedication. This may include acknowledging their military accomplishments as well as a celebration of their personal relationships and values that were so important to them.
A veteran tribute may include a display of their uniforms, medals and awards earned. Family members may also display special memorabilia and pictures that evoke cherished memories of time spent together. Modern memorial services also offer opportunities to combine tradition with creativity by displaying these items on a memory table or sharing videos of remembrance with distant family members who can’t attend in person.
The National Cemetery Administration recently launched the Veterans Legacy Memorial, a digital platform that allows families to create and share their loved one’s tribute page with family and friends. This is a wonderful way to celebrate the multiple aspects of your loved one’s life and legacy.
You can create a digital memorial for your loved one who was interred in a VA National Cemetery by visiting their VLM page and entering their service information. You can then share their tribute page via email, Facebook or Twitter. The VLM page is the centralized hub for a Veteran’s personal tributes and keepsakes, and includes an interactive map to help locate Veterans interred in a national cemetery. It is available to all family members and friends. This is the first of its kind and is an excellent way to honor your loved ones and their legacy.
